Total Mouth

In my rush to publish stuff today I felt like throwing this picture in here. I drew this at work and I mark it as proof to myself that I am still creating in small but unrelenting ways. Its been a blog-productive day with two albums and a good deal of personal art posted... I'm going to keep trying to post more music and art, especially these huge paintings I'm in the middle of... stay tuned and see ya around

p.s. who is checking this, if anybody... just curious

HUBCAP CITY- #2

I saw this band opening for Cat Power at the Tabernacle in Atlanta years ago and after their short and explosivefantastic set they were handing out this ep to those of us in the front of the crowd... They ran out of them right before I was going to get mine, but the main guy Bill Taft pulled out a little notepad and started writing down addresses to mail out more cds to all the other people who wanted them. I could see how it would be difficult to capture the energy of this band on an album, but this is a decent homemade try. Let me just say, though, that the set-up live was one guy in a creepy old man mask and awkwardbig thrift store suit on guitar and a bearded young guy with a giant drum in front of him on the floor and a jangle-y tangle of metal around his right foot to gain additional percussive-kick. I just looked up and saw that they have a pretty up-to-date myspace page and still play shows... Go out and see them cause I know i'm going to try to! Enjoy the music and remember to support these guys with moneys!!!

Shit-Fair

Now I named this bunch of pictures "Shit-Fair" but please know that I dearly love them and I love going down to Perry GA once a year to this lovely horrible event. All the half-assed neon and old machinery is really my ideal aesthetic right now. I would like to take these polaroids and somehow turn them into larger prints, but only if the quality isn't sacrificed... Anyway, here they are, and the titles aren't necessarily final...

Little Wings- Light Green Leaves

The first of a line of albums I want to share with you guys, I've owned this album for years now and its a great time. Weird and beautiful lyrics and stories set to quaint little ditty's. He sets up a small stage for his bizarre tales to unravel and I couldn't imagine this album being any better. If you love it go out and buy it! Enjoy, buddies

fun fun-stuff

1. Circuit-bent-furby sequencer
i just found this in Make magazines' Music category in their archives and needed to re-post it so you guys could see it for yourselves. Coolest thing i've seen in awhile and this is proof that we need to learn how to bend circuits...

2. Zbigniew Rybczynski's Tango (1981)
this video was an early influence of how I see sampling and looping, and I saw this at school around the same time that I first learned how to use the EPS Ensoniq looping keyboard (see previous post Eagle-Sweatpants Monster). I could never remember who the artist was or what this piece was called, but I found it last night.

3.Physical Drum-Loop
and just for symmetry-sake I found another cool video on the Make magazine's blog...

Eagle-Sweatpants Monster

This album was created in 2005 as a musical accompaniment to a large sculpture I created at the Atlanta College of Art. The two tracks played simultaneously coming out of the Eagle-Sweatpants Monster's arms. They never had to sync-up at the same place, and because the two tracks are varying lengths they would shift a little at a time each day. The music was made using a Doepher synth-box and an Ensoniq EPS looping keyboard. I've posted the pieces separately here, and I think they work on their own and maintain the feel that they had together. Enjoy.

Fullmoon Midday

This album was really the first thing I ever recorded by myself, so I thought it would be a fitting (re)beginning to all this. It was recorded in 2003 at some point, though I don't remember the date. Actually its possible that it was in 2004. Anyway, it was recorded at Ben's house while I was house-sitting, I believe, and I used all of the equipment available there: Mike Fleming's digital 8-track, Ben's drums, Josh's synths, my bass, my 3-string acoustic guitar and even an old cell phone with ringtones that I made. I played, recorded and produced everything on the album. All of these are experiments that seemed to come out vastly different, but I think it works as a cohesive piece. Looking back on it there are obvious musical themes that were just beginning to be worked out back then; though this album is more obviously "musical" than the pieces I work on now there are still subtle hints in this of noise and drone that I was completely unaware of at the time. Hope you enjoy.
